A Beautiful Wedding at Winters Barns, Canterbury: Leila & Reece
There’s something truly magical about photographing a couple of childhood sweethearts — and Leila & Reece were just that. Their May wedding at Winters Barns in Canterbury, Kent was an intimate celebration filled with personal touches, laughter, and golden light. All my favourite things, of course!
Morning Preparations & Emotional First Looks
The day began with Leila getting ready in the prep suite, where she also shared a special moment with her father during the big reveal. The suite featured a long freestanding mirror, which I positioned just to the side of the door. This allowed me to capture not only Leila’s radiant reflection but also her father’s reaction as he walked in. A perfect storytelling shot that set the tone for the day. And did I mention, Leila’s dress had wings?!
Outdoor Ceremony & Personal Touches
The ceremony took place outdoors in the beautiful gardens of Winters Barns. The pair said their vows under a mild, slightly cloudy sky that created soft, flattering light — perfect for photos. A string quartet filled the air with elegant music, creating a calm, joyful atmosphere for the couple and their guests.
Leila’s bridesmaids looked stunning in light sage green dresses, perfectly complementing the soft floral arrangements in shades of peach, blue, and white. One particularly charming detail was the couple’s baby son carrying a sign that read, “Daddy, it’s time to give Mummy our last name” — a heartfelt, playful moment that delighted everyone present.
Golden Hour After Dinner
After the wedding breakfast during cocktail hour, we stepped outside for golden hour portraits — one of my favourite parts of the day. Leila & Reece were so relaxed and natural together, and the setting sun cast a warm, magical glow across the gardens of Winters Barns. Exploring the venue for the first time, I discovered open spaces that were absolutely perfect for capturing these intimate, cinematic shots.
Capturing the Story
What I love most about weddings like this is the storytelling. Each glance, laugh, and tender moment is framed within the context of the day. From the morning first look with her father to the golden hour portraits after dinner, every image tells a part of Leila & Reece’s journey — a story of love, joy, and lifelong partnership.
