A Multi-National Wedding at Nonsuch Mansion

Andreea & Lucas’ late summer wedding at Nonsuch Mansion in Sutton, Surrey was no-doubt one of my favourite weddings of 2022. Other than being just one of the loveliest couples ever, their wedding was so pretty with thoughtful details, and full of love – which makes my job as a photographer so much easier.

Embracing Heritage

With Andreea being Romanian and having grown up in Texas and Lucas being half-Dutch and half-Italian, there were several little nods to different cultures on their day. Their welcome sign was in no less than 4 languages, and their cake included a sugar flower to represent each of their countries: American rose, Romanian peony, Dutch tulip and Italian lily.

There were various subtle nods to the couples’ mixture of nationalities throughout the day, including the Dutch stroopwafel favours and even down to the wine selections – Lucas sourced Lambrusco, a sparkling red wine from the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy where he is from, for the drinks reception. He also sourced the white wine that was served during the wedding breakfast – a Chardonnay that originated from the region in France that he grew up in. The pair also danced to ‘Ti Amo’ by Umberto Tozzi for their first dance – an Italian classic.

Taking the Pressure Off and Ditching Traditions

Their ceremony was celebrant-led as, unbeknown to their guests, they’d had their legal wedding several months earlier. The day was full of fun and happiness and they were just one of the most joyful and relaxed couples I’ve had the pleasure of photographing! I like to think that this was largely due to taking certain pressures off on the day. They were already legally married so this wedding was purely about celebrating with their family and friends. They also had a first-look so they could have a special and intimate moment together before the ceremony.

Less is More at Nonsuch Mansion

A great thing about this wedding venue is that all of its rooms are already styled so nicely, so there’s no need to go overboard on the décor. The floral arrangements were the focal point, with personalised touches throughout the rooms with the signage and photo frames that featured images from their pre-wedding couples shoot.

Bride & Groom Details

Andreea wore an Essence of Australia Dress (style D3240) paired with the Imogen Pearl block heels from Charlotte Mills and a single-layer chapel-length ivory veil to complete the look. She was accompanied by her four beautiful bridesmaids wearing a mixture of dress styles in pale pink.

Lucas wore a suit from Moss Bros. He and the groomsmen wore matching cufflinks with their initials engraved on them. He gifted the cufflinks to them on the morning of the wedding, and the groomsmen actually ended up cutting holes in their shirts so they could all wear them as most of them didn’t have the right shirts to wear cufflinks with!

“Shelby is amazing and we cannot recommend her more if we tried. When we first found Shelby, we were instantly attracted to her style of photos. The colours in them are just so stunning and there’s something about them that just made us feel so happy. She captures moments so brilliantly that you can feel the emotion through her photos. We actually did two couples’ shoots with her before our day – we had so much fun and it helped make us feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
Shelby was fantastic on the day, a true professional and it was like having a bonus bridesmaid! She brought the rings to our best man, fluffed my train when needed &bustled my dress in record time! She captured the day beautifully and was so discreet, we barely even noticed she was there snapping away.”
